Shi Fu Steven Friedman, MD
Dr. Friedman is a direct disciple of Grandmaster Huang Chien Liang and has been studying martial arts since 1973. He began training under Grandmaster Huang in 2003 in the disciplines of Tai Ji Quan, Xing Yi Quan, Chi Kung, and Taoist meditation.
Dr. Friedman currently holds a 2nd degree black sash under the certification standards of The World Kuo Shu Federation (TWKSF). He is a TWKSF Certified International Referee B and a United States Kuo Shu Federation (USKSF) and Wu Kui Tang Certified Tai Ji Quan Instructor. He has served the USKSF as Medical Advisor since 2006 and Lei Tai Coordinator since 2008 at the Annual US International Kuoshu Championship Tournaments. In addition, Dr. Friedman has competed in multiple Tai Ji Quan and Xing Yi Quan events, and is a national champion in forms and weapons. He received the Tien Shan Pai Outstanding Competitor Award in 2005.
Dr. Friedman is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in surgery of the hand and upper extremity. He received his undergraduate, medical school, and orthopedic degrees from the University of Maryland and completed sub-specialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery at the State University of New York at Syracuse. He currently practices orthopedic, hand, and upper extremity surgery in the Baltimore metropolitan area.
Dr. Friedman’s current training emphasis is on martial applications of Tai Ji Quan and Daoist meditation methods.
