Grandmaster Huang, Chien-Liang has demonstrated by his leadership the tenets of Kuo Shu – virtue, wisdom, and humility – for more than 35 years, and has steadfastly promoted peace through Kuoshu and the ethics of martial arts. Grandmaster Huang's enthusiasm and dedication to martial arts have made him a national and international Kuoshu leader.
Grandmaster Huang holds a B.S. degree from the National Chung Shing University, Taiwan, R.O.C. He has trained in Kuoshu for more than 40 years and has taught the discipline for more than 35 years. In the United States, his name is synonymous with Kuoshu.

Ian Chisholm
Kung Fu Instructor
Ian is a 65th Generation student of Tien Shan Pai and a direct disciple of Grandmaster Huang, Chien-Liang. He started his training under Grandmaster Huang in 1989.
He is a 3rd degree Black Sash in Tien Shan Pai under Grandmaster Huang and a 4th degree Black Sash under the certification standards of The World Kuoshu Federation. Ian served as Director for the 2005 United States Chinese Kuoshu Federation (USCKF) International Tournament and as Assistant Director for the USCKF tournaments in 1999 and 2001 through 2004.
Ian was a member of the United States national team at the 7th and 8th World Kuoshu Championship tournaments, held in Taipei, Taiwan R.O.C. in 1992 and 1996. In 1992, at the 7th World Kuoshu Championships, he won 1st place in empty hand two person sets and 3rd place in weapon two person sets. In 1996, at the 8th World Kuoshu Championships, he won 1st place in empty hand two person sets and 2nd place in weapon two person sets.
Ian is a graduate of Loyola College in Maryland with a BA in education, and completed post-graduate studies in administration and supervision, also at Loyola College. He worked as an elementary school teacher for Baltimore county Public Schools for 16 years and currently is the owner of a home remodeling company. Ian has a son and a daughter, who are both students at U.S. Kuoshu Academy.
Ian has a special interest in fighting training: he has spent over ten years training in Lei Tai style full contact fighting, iron palm and iron pole training. He also excels at two person sets.
Ken Saunders
Kung Fu Instructor
Ken is a 65th Generation student of Tien Shan Pai and a direct disciple of Grandmaster Huang, Chien-Liang. He started his training under Grandmaster Huang in 1990. Ken is the Program Director at U.S. Kuoshu Academy.
He is a 3rd degree Black Sash in Tien Shan Pai under Grandmaster Huang and a 4th degree Black Sash under the certification standards of The World Kuoshu Federation. Ken served as Director for the 2008 United States Kuo Shu Federation (USKSF) International Tournament and as Assistant Director for the 2006 USKSF International Tournament. An accomplished competitor, Ken has placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in various forms and two-person set events at national and international Chinese martial arts tournaments.
Ken is a graduate of the University of Delaware and works as a civil engineer on infrastructure projects for a multi-disciplinary engineering firm. He has two daughters, who are both students at U.S. Kuoshu Academy.
Ken's personal training has emphasized Tien Shan Pai kung fu and xingyiquan training. As an instructor, his objective is to help his students achieve their goals and push the boundaries of their potential as martial artists.
Sanjay Nair
Kung Fu Instructor
Sanjay is a 65th Generation student of Tien Shan Pai and a direct disciple of Grandmaster Huang, Chien-Liang. He started his training in Tien Shan Pai in 1992 and began studies under Grandmaster Huang in 1997.
He is a 3rd degree Black Sash in Tien Shan Pai under Grandmaster Huang. A national, international and World level champion, Sanjay has placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in various forms and two-man set events at national and international Chinese martial arts tournaments. He was awarded 1st place in empty hand two person sets, 2nd place in weapon two person sets, 2nd place in Advanced Northern empty hand form, and 2nd place in Advanced Other Weapons at 2nd World Kuoshu Championship Tournament, held by The World Kuo Shu Federation in 2006 in Singapore.
Sanjay earned a Bachelors degree from University of Maryland, College Park and an MBA in project management. He works in supply chain management for a large electronics and engineering firm.
Sanjay's training interests are in external forms and traditional full contact fighting methods.
John Green
Tai Chi Instructor
John is a direct disciple of Grandmaster Huang, Chien-Liang. He started his training in martial arts in 1996 and began studies under Grandmaster Huang in 1997.
He is a 4th degree Black Sash under the certification standards of The World Kuoshu Federation.
A national, international and World level champion, John has placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in empty hand forms, weapons forms and pushing hands at national and international Chinese martial arts tournaments. He was awarded seven medals at the 2nd World Kuoshu Championship Tournament, held by The World Kuo Shu Federation in 2006 in Singapore. These medals include: 1st place in Yang-style taijiquan form, 1st place in taijiquan straightsword, 1st place in other-style (Chen Pan Ling) taijiquan form, 1st place in taijiquan push hands – superheavy weight division, 2nd place in taijiquan long weapon, 3rd place in taijiquan broadsword form and 3rd place in baguazhang form.
John has also been the Internal Arts Competitor of the Year in 2002 and 2007, as recognized by the United States Kuo Shu Federation (USKSF).
John earned a Bachelors of Science degree from University of Virginia in Engineering and a Masters of Science degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Maryland, University College. He works as an Account Manager for one of the largest software companies in the world.
John's training interests are in promoting the internal arts curriculum available through Grandmaster Huang's instruction.
Steve Friedman
Tai Chi Instructor
Steve is a direct disciple of Grandmaster Huang, Chien-Liang. He started his training under Grandmaster Huang in 2003.
He is a 1st degree Black Sash under the certification standards of The World Kuoshu Federation.
Steve is a medical doctor, with a specialty in orthopedic surgery. He was graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (magna cum laude) and earned an MD from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine.
Steve's martial arts interests are Tao meditation and the martial applications of taijiquan.
